The original Samsung Tocco Lite is a few years old now but during its heyday it sold strongly. This has now led to a sequel entering development, with Samsung promising that it will deliver more entry-level smartphone thrills but with an improved selection of internal components. The Tocco Lite 2 is set to launch in March 2012 and will be competing directly with a number of other budget handsets like the HTC Wildfire S. The Tocco Lite 2 will have a three inch touchscreen display, a three megapixel camera and the option to add in a microSD memory card to increase on board storage space up to 16GB.
Unlike Samsung`s other recent releases the Tocco Lite will not run the Android operating system but will instead use a bespoke platform developed within the company itself. This does mean that it will not have access to the excellent Android Market for app downloads like the Samsung Galaxy Y, which should be its equivalent in price. However, Samsung will hopefully make up for this with a good selection of preinstalled software. According to a press release the Tocco Lite 2 will be able to connect to social networking sites in order to help younger users stay in touch with one another. This will presumably include integration for the likes of Facebook and Twitter as well as some kind of instant messaging service.

To help keep connectivity contemporary the Tocco Lite 2 will sport Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so users will not need to worry about being charged for data provided they have a wireless network available at home. At the other end of the scale more details have emerged relating to the HTC Ville ahead of its official unveiling during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) show later this month. Chief amongst its features will be a 1.5GHz dual core processor which will put it in the same league as the HTC Sensation XE when it comes to performance. It will also have a 4.3 inch display that uses Super AMOLED technology and an eight megapixel camera which will presumably be able to record video clips in full HD 1080p. HTC will be loading the Ville with Android 4.0 as well as its own Sense user interface and rumours suggest that it will be slimmer than any of the company`s previous handsets, measuring just eight millimetres thick.
This could still not be as slim as Samsung`s upcoming Galaxy S3 handset, which will reportedly have a seven millimetre chassis depth. However, the Ville is really more of a mid-range model which will not be directly competing with the quad core Galaxy S3. It is more accurately seen as a follow-up to last year`s HTC Sensation, although there are plenty of hardware tweaks and new features which will allow it to differentiate itself from the most recent crop of smartphones. The same cannot necessarily be said about the Samsung Tocco Lite 2, although time might prove it to be a winner.
